Balcones Country Club was first opened in 1959 as a private nine-hole. Six years later, a developer named Bill Cotton saw the promise in the Balcones course, clubhouse, and surrounding land.  He partnered with a businessman named Jim McCulluck, and they began to develop what is now one of the most well-known areas in northwest Austin.  The back nine of the Balcones course was developed in the early 1970’s and was soon followed by an additional 18 hole course named Spicewood Golf Course.  By 1984, Balcones Country Club was owned by its membership, and has continued to thrive ever since.
